Target takes aim at eames

I went to look for some photo frames at target yesterday. Instead I came out with chevron cushions, an hour glass and some Jamie Oliver scales. But I was very distracted by this replica eames chair for children. $50 each available in white, pink and blue

The Big Wet 2013

Here we go again. As many of you may know, Brisbane suffered a huge flood in 2011. Comparable to that of the record levels recorded in 1974 flood. Of course, Brisbane is far more developed now and certain areas were particularly worse than the 1974 levels. While there are many political arguments and finger pointing, it is the cost to the people and the heroes of this time to which our focus should be led.

Sadly, it has come again. A cyclone from North Queensland has tracked its way down to South East Queensland and beyond. The devastation is widespread and at the time of writing, it appears the flood will be similar to that of 2011.

As for us, we are very lucky. We live close to the mouth of the Brisbane river near an estuary and storm-water drain. The worst of the damage to our property is from the sheer volume of water.

Stay safe everyone. Keep away for powerlines and flowing water.

Viva las Vegas

Today we welcomed the newest addition to our little family. Meet Vegas our beautiful German Shepherd puppy. He is 8 weeks old.

I know all mums say this but he is the most beautiful puppy I've ever seen!

He really likes being outside in the yard as we spent most of the day out there today. He loves going for a dip in his paddling pool. But he really likes sticks.

He is a delight to be with and we feel very lucky to have him.

Second Christmas

Very excited today. Our furniture has arrived. Looking forward to un-wrapping them all. Gently of course. I will post some photos once all in position.

$5 dollar delight

We have just arrived back from the fantastic Jan Powers Farmers Markets at the New Farm Powerhouse. I had a very yummy vietnamese chilling pork roll made by two foodie famous local girls. We also managed to pick up 8 Gerberas for $5. I was a little safe with my selection and went with matching but they look cheerful and happy at home.

Our namesake

For Christmas, my gift to David was a hammock for the tree. We could source any rope at Bunnings so as you might be able to see, we used ratchets. Did the job just fine. Here are some pictures of David under the tree..

David managed to snap a quick picture of this local. I'm not sure what kind of bird this is. Can you let me know?

What have we been up to lately?

Recently we decided to make the house a little more comfortable whilst we are still planning and saving for the larger renovations (deck, bathroom, open plan lounge etc.). We first decided to paint the lounge room a fresh white (Dulux Natural White) with a white trim for the windows, skirting and door frames.

The result was better than expected. We are delighted with the fresh look. We re-arranged the furniture and the space felt so different. We now have room for a dinner table, abiet a small one.

We have ordered some new furnture from Early Settler. We would not usually choose a furniture package, often these can look a little inpersonal, but when we saw these pieces, we were sold. They are fresh, solid and quite simple. We felt they could match any style or decor, whether it be a beachy look, cottage, modern or balianse.

These are some photos we took at the store.

(We have picked a simple wooden chair rather than the ones pictured)

These should arrive by the end of January. I can't wait.

In the meantime, I have my eye on a new sofa setting. I would really like the Ektorp range (3 seater and 2 seater) as this is very neutral, classic stlying and I love that the covers are interchangable.
